Date: Sun, 6 Apr 2008 15:40:12 -0400 [subsequently enhanced] From: "Jason Eisner" Ok, here's what I was able to dig up for area counts for EMNLP-CoNLL 2007. I don't remember whether the "first-pass counts" shown below were before or after reassignment for COI with area chair. I think before reassignment, so they are "accurate" counts from your point of view. I could check if you like. We wanted about 16 areas of max 30 papers each, some fewer. Number of reviewers should equal number of papers. Numbers in brackets are [EMNLP'06,ACL'07] submissions for that track. Based on estimated submissions to EMNLP-CoNLL'07, that should be <= [23,45] if we want the track to get at most 30-34 papers this time; otherwise consider splitting into two tracks. (Something like "28-term+relation" in a bracketed number means there were 28 submissions in the closest corresponding track of EMNLP'06 or ACL'07, but the topic of that track was a bit different, so to get an appropriate estimate we'd need to subtract off the previous track's term extraction papers and add the new track's relation extraction papers.) *** It is crucial to get the top people as area chairs; but other things equal, good to have some balance of gender, institution, nationality. Avoid COI when assigning papers to area chairs.
