I spent this summer (1999) in Delhi and had occasion to roam the city with two old and close friends Trisha and Gaurav. These are some of the photographs that Gaurav took while with us and a couple he took on his own.
We made two trips to Mehrauli. The first place we visited was Zafar Mahal just outside the rear entrance of the Qutubuddin Bakhtiyar Kaki dargah.
The view from the first floor of the Zafar Mahal.
The Qutub Minar. The view is again from the Zafar Mahal.
After spending some time at the dargah we went on to the step wells (baolis.)
Moving on we went to Jamali Kamali.
One of the little canopies on a hilltop near Jamali Kamali.
The fluted pilasters of the main arch of the Jamali Kamali mosque.
Another Sunday took us to Jama Masjid where I had the onerous duty of getting the pigeons to fly in the forecourt.
We went up the Southern minaret and looked North.
Gaurav took his own trip to the Nizamuddin area and came up with some decent photographs. The Blue umbrella which is a translation of the colloquial name "Neeli Chhatri." I don't know what exactly this is.
Another canopy near the Neeli Chhatri with tiling in four colours.
My favourite photograph is the one which Gaurav took from inside the North Block looking at the South Block when we went to Raisina hill after our trip to Jama Masjid.
