Alexander Szalay

Alexander Szalay, a Bloomberg Distinguished Professor of Physics and Astronomy and Computer Science and the director of the Institute for Data-Intensive Engineering and Science, has been named a 2023 fellow of the Association for Computing Machinery. The distinction recognizes the top 1% of ACM members for their outstanding accomplishments in computing and information technology and outstanding service to ACM and the larger computing community.

A cosmologist who works on statistical measures of the spatial distribution of galaxies and galaxy formation, Szalay was recognized for his contributions in systems, big data, open data, and for service to the computing research community. He is one of 68 new fellows representing universities, corporations, and research centers in Canada, China, Germany, India, Israel, Norway, Singapore, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
