Jason Eisner and David Hovemeyer, both faculty in the Department of Computer Science, have been selected to receive Awards for Excellence in Teaching, Advising, and Mentoring from the Whiting School of Engineering.

Eisner, a professor of computer science, has received this year’s Johns Hopkins Alumni Association Excellence in Teaching Award. Funded by the Johns Hopkins Alumni Association, this award recognizes his enthusiasm in the classroom, interest in his students, and ability to teach complex and difficult information.

Eisner’s research goal is to develop probabilistic modeling, inference, and learning techniques that can model all kinds of linguistic structure and can connect existing models, such as large language models, to common-sense reasoning, formal reasoning, and downstream user interfaces such as chatbot assistants, AI teachers, and AI-curated social media.

An associate teaching professor in the department, Hovemeyer was chosen for this year’s William H. Huggins Excellence in Teaching Award, given in recognition of outstanding teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and a demonstrated dedication to students. Hovemeyer’s research focuses on static analysis, systems software, and computer science education.
